Founded in 2026, La Cave aux Claviers is an intimate piano atelier in Stuttgart’s Feuersee district, conceived as a laboratory for sound, musical exploration and creative learning.
Three exceptional historical instruments — a C. Bechstein B concert grand from 1908, a C. Bechstein A salon piano from 1905, and a Clementi square piano from 1818 — are at the heart of the studio.
Here, the history of the piano is not something preserved behind glass.
It is alive beneath the fingers.
Different instruments reveal different colours, touches and possibilities, inviting us to listen differently and to encounter familiar music anew.
I welcome children, young musicians, professionals and amateur adults of different backgrounds and levels, accompanying each person in developing their own musical voice through attentive listening, technique, curiosity and imagination.

Playing with History
The instruments are not simply here to be preserved — they are here to be played.
Like a good wine cellar, La Cave aux Claviers brings together instruments shaped by time, craftsmanship and character. Each piano has its own history, personality and particular voice. And just as a wine reveals different aromas, textures and nuances depending on its origin and age, each instrument opens a different world of sound beneath the hands.

Students can experience a remarkable range of instruments across centuries and discover how composers such as Haydn, Mozart, Beethoven, Schubert, Clementi, Chopin, Liszt, Brahms, Ravel and Debussy responded to the instruments of their time — seeking distinct possibilities of touch, colour, articulation and expression, often far removed from our modern expectations.
The aim is not to recreate the past as a museum piece, but to engage with it, listen to it, bring it to life and cultivate a more refined musical taste.

Lessons are individually tailored to each pianist, from beginners and returning adults to professional musicians, with focus on sound, technique, gesture, musicality and historically informed approach. Following instruments are available:
- C. Bechstein B, 1908 · concert Piano
A grand historical piano from the golden age of the late Romantic instrument, equipped with original French Herrburger-Schwander mechanics, producing a rich, singing sonority and remarkable expressive range.
- C. Bechstein A, 1905 · salon Piano
An elegant Bechstein salon piano from the beginning of the twentieth century. With modern pilot double-escapement mechanics, its intimate and refined tonal character evoke the tradition of private music-making and the cultured salon, while fully preserving its appeal for modern 20th-century repertoire.
- M. Clementi, 1818 · Square Piano
An extraordinary early nineteenth-century instrument, built during the lifetime of Muzio Clementi, Beethoven and Schubert, featuring English mechanics (English double-action). Its distinctive touch and transparent sound and resonance open a direct window onto the Classical and early Romantic piano tradition.
